Written Prior to Shooting
In order to follow the script that I have written, I will need to shoot scenes both indoors and outdoors. While the majority of these shots will be done inside, I may have to spend just as much time on the shots outside. This is because there are a lot of variables that could go wrong during the outside shoot. Examples of this are the lack of lighting that will occur at the late time that I intend to shoot this, and the fact that I will have to ask people to move their cars in order to get a clearer shot. As it is late, people are unlikely to want to do this for quite a while, and as such I will have to be quick yet composed with certain outside shots. Fortunately, there is only one actual shot that would involve the movement of cars on my estate so I should be able to get this shot with relative ease. It may also be the case that I shoot the short film in Spain, as this will likely save time while I’m on holiday as well as potentially providing more impressive and diverse shots. This will cause a few discrepancies between the script and the finished product, but nothing that will ultimately throw the story off of its original direction.
Written After Shooting the Footage
Ultimately, I decided to end up shooting the entirety of my short film in Spain while I was there, as this would give me more time to edit the footage once I was home, along with having a much more contained film, as opposed to it being all over the place in terms of shots and their subsequent composition.
All of the footage seen in the Short Film was shot on the 10th and 11th of April, while I was in Spain for the week. My family helped out with some of the camerawork, and my Dad even made a brief appearance within the Film itself in order to fill a role that I needed.
Overall, nothing went wrong with this shoot, and if anything I actually recorded more footage than I needed to, which is difficult to argue as actually being a bad thing. Still, I am curious as to how the shoot would have turned out had I stuck to my initial idea for the Short Film.
